Business is all about sales. No matter what kind of business you are, whether you sell to other businesses or consumers, whether your focus is fashion or forestry, plumbing or paintings… it all comes down to making a sale.

An old business maxim goes ’sales solves all’ and it still holds true. Revenue is what will sustain the other aspects of your businesss and drive profits which is an important catalyst for growth.

How do you approach growth of your sales?

Do you increase sales through attracting new customers, keeping existing customers, helping customers to buy more or helping customers to buy more often?

Spend 2/3 of your time on existing clients and 1/3 of your time on getting new clients

Thanks for the heads up! One important factor is that you never sell on price. Being the low price provider is a quick ticket to financial disaster for most businesses. Customers who buy based on price will not be loyal. The minute a better price is offered, they’ll jump ship. And, you’ll never be able to offer the best price long term. Another business will inevitably have a better system or lower cost – or the owner is too stupid to actually know his cost and sells below it. It’s a no win scenario.

I made the buyers realize they want what is being offered from me.

The question you should ask yourself is: Are You an Order Taker or an Order Maker?
